11. A concern on AI outcomes - Part 2

Please refer to my earlier Part-1 topic on this - https://www.mayoan.com/technology/2.--a-concern-on-ai-outcomes

I recently came across a string of instagram videos where some persons are suggesting creating custom resumes from using GPT AI software (fed with the relevant job description with some prompts) and then feeding the output to some AI sites generating resumes ! This, they claimed is landing them in the next stage of the job hunt without fail most of the times.

If this is really happening, this is a great disaster! What happened to the time tested skills of human capability assessment by relevant HR partners? It has worked well in the past. A thoughtful and skillful human mind did the resume screening part too. If the complaint is that - the HR team is receiving too much of resumes for each job opening, then the initial screening should be based on some objective scores and not based on screening by AI technology which looks like is easy to be hoodwinked.

The objecting human screening can be based on the career history, skills, certifications, education, accomplishments, accolades, work experience in blue chip companies and exposure to niche/in-demand technologies etc., In platforms like LinkedIn, it is possible to obtain work related recommendations from current and erstwhile colleagues. But instead, if the above technique using GPT AI software is working successfully, then unfortunately the resume screening AI technology is unfairly focussing on the match of resume contents with job description (JD) only.

A trained HR partner can quickly scan the resume, without deep diving initially, assigning scores to the above objectives and then based on a certain cutoff (to be decided based on volume of applications received) , can then proceed to select the candidates for the next round. Even some elementary AI model can be used to score which should be vetted by a HR partner subsequently.

In my opinion, every applicant should be given a fair chance to prove himself and rampant use of AI technology is denying that opportunity to some potential genuine applicants. The counter argument seems to be that this resume writing AI software is free to use for all those interested ! But I hope at least some see the unethical part in such practices. However hard the pressure may be put on me to use this AI resume writing software, the genuine part of my brain is writhing in pain at the mere thought of a brainless AI software generating my resume and mapping my entire career path and mixing it with the JD to get a competitive advantage to move to the next stage of the job selection process. I would like to think deep about what I have done in the past , write my own resume in the finest language, and personally select the jobs that I would like to apply and start the job application process. I sincerely hope that there will be such genuine HR partners who will receive my resume at the other end and also "feel" the contents of the human written resume.

Arts and Crafts are to be appreciated by humans as part of "in pursuit of excellence" concept. Earlier kings and rich people used to appreciate and patronize arts. This is not happening nowadays and they are on their own.

  1. I see lots of amazing street-artists who need a bit of support from general public and here we are effortlessly embracing the AI generated arts.

  2. Graphics and media artists are being replaced by AI graphics technology

  3. Naturally gifted photographers are being replaced by AI photographs

  4. Naturally gifted musicians are being replaced by AI softwares generating music of your preferred genre.

  5. We now have AI softwares that allow you to be "great" writers.

  6. etc.,

Where will the above related and such human players go to meet their economical needs? Why are they being forced to abandon their core talent/skills in favor of AI technologies?

Every day "great" ai sites come up each day replacing the art of genuine human thinking and development and we do not seem to remember our core purpose of being born - i.r to set ourselves in pursuit of human excellence.

We have to be careful about embracing AI and should have sound guidelines about its usage such as below.

  1. Control the use of AI where delicate, meaningful, human mindful thinking is expected.

  2. Do not use AI where the principle of "in pursuit of human excellence" is denied

  3. Control the use of AI in the field of creativity, R&D, and where judging fellow humans(and other species) etc., is involved

  4. Use AI where rote labor/process is involved and only when job market is performing well

  5. Use AI when the whole mankind is benefitted (like smart cities' projects) without adversely affecting job market conditions. If necessary the AI job functions should be controlled to be increased or decreased based on job market conditions in a dynamic ways.

  6. Regulations should explicitly state those jobs that can be delegated to AI, that cannot be delegated to AI and that should be controlled while delegating to AI. This list should be constantly reviewed in some cadence.

  7. Do no use AI if the outcomes are not justifiable by a genuine human.
